Overview

Whatagraph is a fast and easy-to-use marketing data platform designed to simplify performance monitoring and reporting for marketing teams. Strategic alignment is essential for a rapidly scaling startup like Whatagraph to ensure its leadership remains focused on current organisational priorities.

Challenge

As Whatagraph continued to scale quickly, the leadership team needed a shared vision and a clear strategic direction that could guide the entire organisation. The challenge was to bring together a diverse group of leaders and help them collaboratively shape an actionable strategy that addressed both short-term goals and long-term objectives, aligning everyone on critical priorities.

Approach

How might we set the stage for a fast-scaling startup’s leadership strategic alignment process?

To tackle this challenge, we designed an intensive 2-day offsite, grounded in the framework of Patrick Lencioni’s The Advantage. This model provided a structured approach, focusing on answering six key strategic questions to foster clarity and alignment. Our team facilitated exercises that led the leadership team to collaboratively outline their strategic objectives.

Throughout the 16-hour session, the 12-person leadership team worked to draft the first version of Whatagraph’s Strategic Playbook—a concise and actionable guide for strategic alignment. This Playbook was developed as a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) that could be refined over time and shared with all teams for broader alignment.

Outcome

The offsite concluded with the creation of the Strategic Playbook MVP, which became a foundational document for Whatagraph’s strategic direction. By answering the six strategic questions, the leadership team developed a shared understanding of the company’s priorities and goals. The Playbook provided a roadmap for future growth, ensuring that all teams could align with leadership’s vision and objectives. The strategic alignment achieved during the offsite empowered Whatagraph to move forward cohesively and confidently, with a clear path toward sustainable growth.
