Booking.com is a global leader in the online travel industry, offering users a seamless way to book accommodations, flights, car rentals, and travel experiences worldwide. With an extensive selection and a user-friendly interface, it empowers travelers to find everything from hotels to vacation rentals, making trip planning and management effortless. They approached us to facilitate a solution that would enable their team members to quickly build connections and establish a collaborative foundation.
Challenge
The new team struggled with a lack of familiarity and awareness of each other’s communication preferences. We saw this as an opportunity to help them connect on a personal level, enhancing their ability to work together smoothly.
Outcome
We facilitated an interactive event, beginning with a “mingling discovery” session to build personal rapport, followed by a game to explore communication styles. A final reflection session allowed the team to share insights.
Strategy
To address the client's goal of building a strong foundation for team collaboration, we posed the question: "How might we engage a new 30-person team to get to know each other better?" Understanding that early team formation is critical for smooth collaboration and value generation, we designed an immersive, interactive event with three key phases.
The event began with a “mingling discovery” activity, specifically crafted to break down barriers and encourage team members to connect on a personal level. During this phase, participants engaged in structured, light-hearted conversations that prompted them to share details about their backgrounds, interests, and unique perspectives. This initial activity helped build familiarity and trust, allowing the team to feel more at ease with one another.
Following this, we introduced an interactive game focused on communication styles. This phase aimed to deepen team members’ awareness of how they and their colleagues prefer to communicate, helping them understand the diverse range of styles present in the group. The game included scenarios that challenged participants to interpret and respond to each other’s communication cues, sparking insights about varying approaches to teamwork, problem-solving, and collaboration
We concluded the event with a reflective group session, where team members were encouraged to discuss their key takeaways from the activities. Facilitated prompts guided them to share personal insights, reflections on the different communication styles, and their experiences during the event. This closing segment solidified the learnings, reinforced connections, and created a shared sense of purpose, preparing the team to collaborate seamlessly moving forward.
The event went smoothly and successfully achieved our goal of fostering connection and understanding within the team. This success is reflected in the feedback, with a reported satisfaction rating of 9/10.
