PGT: Building Innovation Capability Through Real-World Challenges
25 participants | 3-day in-person program | 5 cross-functional projects launched | Follow-up coaching | Extended collaboration
Overview
PGT, a global logistics and energy solutions trader based in Rotterdam, set out to strengthen cross-functional collaboration and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
This was not a training request. It was a capability shift.
We partnered with PGT to design and deliver a hands-on Human-Centred Design program that embedded structured innovation practices into real business challenges. The goal wasn’t to “learn design thinking”, it was to apply it immediately and generate tangible outcomes with lasting impact.
Challenge
PGT teams were highly capable, but:
- Problem-solving was siloed across functions
- Ownership of initiatives was often unclear
- Creativity was reactive rather than strategic
The team needed a structured yet practical approach to tackle systemic challenges — and leave with initiatives ready for implementation.
Approach
Following stakeholder interviews, we designed a tailored end-to-end Innovation Capability Program combining:
- Hands-on skill building
- Live business case exploration
- Real-time facilitation
- Post-workshop coaching
Across three intensive days, teams moved from system mapping to idea generation to owned innovation projects. Online coaching ensured implementation momentum.
Outcome
The program delivered:
- 5 cross-functional innovation projects launched
- Shared innovation language adopted across teams
- Shift from reactive problem-solving to proactive experimentation
- Extended collaboration beyond the initial program
PGT moved from “innovation as an initiative” to innovation as a way of working.
