Mercator Kolleg: Boosting Creativity & Agility

Go to the Innovation page

Overview

In today’s fast-paced workplace, creativity and agility are essential skills for professionals to solve complex problems and drive innovation. Mercator Kolleg partnered with Make Team Work to design a 3-day Agility and Creativity program, enabling participants to develop and test these critical skills while working on a real project for an NGO. The program combined practical tools, hands-on learning, and real-world impact, providing a dynamic and transformative experience for participants.

Challenge

Creativity and agility are often recognised as vital workplace skills, but they can be challenging to teach in a way that integrates theory with practical application. Mercator Kolleg sought a program that would not only introduce these concepts but also allow participants to experience and apply them in a meaningful context. The challenge was to design an intensive, engaging program that delivered measurable results in just three days.

Approach

We designed a 3-day Agility and Creativity program focused on experiential learning and real-world application. Participants worked on a project for an NGO, using the following structured process:

• Exploring Tools and Approaches: Participants tested various tools to organise their work, understand the problem, and generate insights.

• Ideation and Prototyping: Teams developed creative solutions through brainstorming and rapid prototyping.

• Presentation and Feedback: Participants presented their solutions to the NGO and received constructive feedback, refining their ideas further.

The program seamlessly blended academic research with empirical methods, providing a practical framework for participants to experiment with agility and creativity while delivering tangible outcomes.

Outcome

The program proved to be a perfect balance of theory and practice, enabling participants to achieve extraordinary creative results within a short timeframe. By working on a real NGO project, participants gained hands-on experience in applying agility and creativity to solve problems effectively. The success of the program highlights its ability to foster innovation, enhance problem-solving skills, and leave participants equipped to bring these methodologies into their professional environments.
